DESCENDANTS OF JOHN IRISH

 

±8964. Malinda, b. between 1784-1790. m. – Washburn

±8965. Lydia, b. about 1790. m. – Edmunds

8966. Gideon, b. about 1791; d. after 7-20-1858 in the County Poor House in

Plattsburg, Clinton County, New York. He first volunteered at

Perce, in Clinton County about Nov. 1812 in the Battalion of

Capt. Ezra Turner under the command of Maj. John Roberts

and continued in active service 13 days and was honorably

discharged and paid at Plattsburg, N. Y. Next he volunteered

at Peru about August 31, 1814 and again served in the War of

1812 as a private under Capt. David Cochran’s Company com-

manded by Col. Thomas Miller in the New York State Militia.

He was engaged in the battle of Plattsburg until September 13,

1814, but did not ask for or receive pay for this service, but was

honorably discharged on September 13, 1814. His request for

Bounty Land is filed in the Archives at Washington D. C.

under 160 W. T. 82638. Can #1350; bundle #102, dated July 16,

1858.

 

*Buried in the Christy Cemetery at the Log Village, near Allegany Road at Irving,

Chautauqua County, New York. No markers at their graves.

 

±From the circumstantial evidence read in the micro-film “F.N.Y. 26, Part 3, M. M. of Hamburg, N. Y. 1759-1866” in Salt Lake City, Utah, we believe these were the two daughters of Gideon and Phebe Irish.
