    Obituary Dorothy Catherine Beall
    1922-2018
DOROTHY CATHERINE IRISH BEALL, 95, died January 2, 2018 with family present. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Fielder J. Beall in 2003. They would have been married 75 years in May.
Dorothy was born in Columbus, Georgia on April 6, 1922 to then Lt. and Mrs. Wynot Irish. Her father was a career Army Officer and Dorothy lived a wonderful life as an Army "Brat" at various forts from Hawaii to West Point to the Panama Canal Zone. The world was literally her education. She thrived in this life full of adventure.
Dorothy married Fielder on May 23, 1943 one week after her graduation from Russell Sage College and one week before Fielder was commissioned into the Army Air Corp. Dorothy's life as an Army "Brat" prepared her for this next adventure as she followed Fielder from one hot, dusty duty station to another hot, dusty duty station as he acquired his wings and further training as a C-47 and C-46 pilot. In January, 1945 Dorothy moved to Denver to live with her mother as Fielder was sent to the China-India-Burma Theater of war. Mom doubly celebrated the last day of the war (August 14th) with both the birth of son James Fielder and the survival of her husband.
In January, 1946 Dorothy moved to Lockport, Illinois with Fielder as he began his civilian career as a young engineer for Texaco. With a newborn baby, post war-time shortages, no car and little to no housing available, life was a challenge. They literally lived in a one-bedroom apartment over the railroad tracks. The many stories and lessons from this time period are of laughter, challenges and success. No time to feel sorry for oneself.
As Fielder progressed with his job at Texaco moving from Lockport to Lawrenceville, Illinois to Houston, Mom progressed with her job as Mother, Sunday School teacher, Scout leader, Youth Group sponsor, Red Cross lady and Church Elder. Dorothy was especially proud of her time as a substitute teacher. She used her many life experiences to expand and make far more interesting the old school curriculum. Teachers were soon requesting Dorothy as their substitute as they knew she would keep the kids current with their studies, maintain discipline by keeping the kids interested and give the students a different perspective than was available from the text books.
Dorothy was an amazing storyteller and historian. She constantly delighted those around her with a new story or tale from her adventuresome past.
She was a very proud mother and mother-in-law of three sons and their wives Jim and Anne, John and Jan, Phil and Peggy and her seven grandchildren, Kristin, Catherine, Sarah, Sam, Susan, Anna, Charley and nine great grandchildren Garrett, Parker, Zoe, Peter, David, Charles, Fielder, Avery and Joy.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Fielder, her two brothers Charles and Richard, and her youngest son Philip.
An interment for family is scheduled at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, 77079, on January 5, 2018 at 9:30 AM followed by a Memorial Service celebrating her life at St. Thomas Presbyterian Church, 14100 Memorial Drive, Houston TX 77079 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorothy I. Beall Memorial Fund at St. Thomas Presbyterian Church.
