From: W. L. Irish - He was named for both grandfathers. When he was only 3 years old, his parents moved to a farm in DeKalb County, Illinois. When 18 years of age, the family moved to a farm in Cedar County, Iowa. In October 1874, Jesse and Mary purchased a 375 acre farm in Twp. 76, R. 31, N. W. Sec. 13, Grove Twp. Iowa, where they raised their family. In 1890, they moved from this farm into the Town of Menlo, Iowa.
