213. Col. George Irish, b, in 1729; d. 10-11-1801 in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was a man of much prominence in Colonial and Revolutionary history. He purchased land in Rhode Island just prior to the Revolution. He had great wealth for those days. Owned a brig “Friendship” which sailed from Newport to the West Indies. Also carried on a grain and provision trade with Virginia. George Washington dealt largely with him. When the Colonists declared their independence, he loaned the new government of the U. S. 3,257 Pounds Sterling. Was Colonel of the Militia and served in the Assembly of Newport, R. I.

5006. Benjamin Irish b. 11-1-1753 in S. Kingston, R.I. d. about 1803 at sea.
He was in the Rev. War and had 640 acres of land in New York granted him for his services. He was taken prisoner in 1776 at Ft. Washington or Ft. Lee. He followed the sea and went to Havana de Cuba in a vessel from the port of New London, Conn. His last letter was dated at Havana in 1795 and since then no information of him has come to his family. Benjamin and Martha left seven children.

5642. Abner Irish, b. 9-25-1748 in Dutchess Co., N. Y.; d. 3-14-1825 at Visscher’s Ferry, N. Y. Abner Irish appears in the U. S. Census of 1790 and is named as a soldier in the Revolution of the 6th Regiment of Dutchess County, N. Y. The family moved between 1790-1795 to Visscher’s Ferry, Saratoga County, New York. They bought a 263 Acre farm from William and Margaret Shephard on 12-14-1795, which is now owned by Herbert Clute.

15168. Daniel L. Irish  b. at; d. A hero in the Revolutionary War.  From the very few records available, we have been unable to determine the names of the parents of this Daniel6 L. Irish, so will very much appreciate receiving any information on this family. The name Daniel Irish does not appear in the 1790 or 1800 Census of Rutland County, Vermont, but they moved from Vermont to Erie County, New York in 1807. The names of Stephen B. and Sylvester appear in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Census of Collins and Hamburg, Erie County, New York; but the name of their father, Daniel L. Irish does not appear in any of these records.

He first volunteered at Perce, in Clinton County about Nov. 1812 in the Battalion of  Capt. Ezra Turner under the command of Maj. John Roberts and continued in active service 13 days and was honorably discharged and paid at Plattsburg, N. Y. Next he volunteered at Peru about August 31, 1814 and again served in the War of 1812 as a private under Capt. David Cochran’s Company commanded by Col. Thomas Miller in the New York State Militia.  He was engaged in the battle of Plattsburg until September 13, 1814, but did not ask for or receive pay for this service, but was honorably discharged on September 13, 1814. His request for Bounty Land is filed in the Archives at Washington D. C. under 160 W. T. 82638. Can #1350; bundle #102, dated July 16, 1858.

Having enlisted in Feb 1943, he served in Japan during WWII. In 1950, he flew 100 missions while serving in Korea and was promoted to captain. He was in the Phillippines and Saigon in 1968 during the Viet Nam War. Major Irish retired from the U.S.A.F. in 1969. He now is 88 years old and lives in Fla. with his fourth wife, Delcia.

Served in the Army, was drafted in 1969. Basic training at Ft. Dix, AIT in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Sent to Vietnam in September, 1969. Served with 7th of the 8th Artillery 2nd Field Forces, attached to the ARVNs and allied forces in the III Corps. area and Cambodia. Drove Duce and a half truck, hauling gasoline into war zones. Left Vietnam in October 1970.  Decorated with Honors:
