It
has been generally believed by the descendants, that Eldon
Wallace
was the only child of this Lucius Irish. Lucius was
a
sailor and when Eldon was a small boy, Lucius left home and
signed
on a whaling boat for seven years. When he returned,
he
learned that his wife had died and he could not find his
son,
Eldon. He then settled in Bennington, Vermont and later
married
Mary Allen. He brought up Mary’s niece as his own,
and
later found his son, Eldon. It was thought that Eldon
must
have grown up with a dislike for his father, since his
children
knew very little of his family.
