b,
in 1729; d. 10-11-1801 in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was a man
of *
much
prominence in Colonial and Revolutionary history. He pur-
chased
land in Rhode Island just prior to the Revolution. He had
great
wealth for those days. Owned a brig “Friendship” which
sailed
from Newport to the West Indies. Also carried on a grain
and
provision trade with Virginia. George Washington dealt
largely
with him. When the Colonists declared their independ-
ence,
he loaned the new government of the U. S. 3,257 Pounds
Sterling.
Was Colonel of the Militia and served in the Assembly
of
Newport, R.I.

Thus
were united in marriage two probable descendants of
Godfrey
de Bouillon and Adam de Ireys, who, 675 years before,
went
together into the Holy Land, to recover Jerusalem from
the
Saracens, and in commemoration of whose services there,
their
Coats-of-Arms now in use by the Bowler and Irish fami-
lies
were bestowed. See D. A. R. #58,387.
